I am going to tell you about a personal experience I had, that at the time was nothing short of astonishing. This is going back several years to the time in my life when I was a big proponent of the power of affirmations. Just to clarify, I still believe in the power of affirmations.
However, I discovered something that absolutely rocked my boat back in the day regarding how affirmations may actually be processed through the filter of your subconscious mind...and not in a good way.
Here's what I experienced:
I had put together a recording of my voice making positive affirmations, maybe two or three minutes worth. Then I edited the recording in a way allowing the three minutes to play over and over again without stopping. Then I transferred it to my iPod (now days iphone) to replay the recording over and over again.
Now it's important to note, these affirmations were very positive and very precisely crafted. I had created my first affirmation recordings way back in the early 80s so I had a lot of practice when it came to the proper way of authoring an affirmation.
That being said, the experience I'm about to share with you absolutely blew my mind! At the time I didn't know what to make of it. Now, all these years later with my hypnotherapy training and experience with the subconscious mind I absolutely understand what was going on.
I was listening to some affirmations
They were playing over and over again on my iPod. I remember I laid down and closed my eyes so I could concentrate on the powerful positive messages. At some point I had drifted off. What I remember next was being aware I was in that strange twilight kind of place between being asleep and fully awake.
The way I make affirmations is to repeat each affirmation three times before moving on to the next one. What I remember is hearing my voice clearly saying the following words:
" I hate myself"
Those words startled me into immediately waking up in time to hear the last repetition of the affirmation:
" I love myself"
I was blown away!
I actually heard my voice completely change the words and meaning of the affirmation. Transforming it into the exact opposite of what I intended. I'll never forget how shocked I was at the time. What was going on?
Then the thought hit me:
Had I been, because of something I was unaware of inside me, actually making a series of negative affirmations? How long has this been going on?
I know this sounds crazy. Because the commonly held belief is a positive affirmation was going to change your " inner talk" over time. This means you would begin to naturally think the positive thoughts you were setting forth as your positive affirmations to your self.
I had just had the exact opposite experience!
My words had been completely changed along with the meaning into what is probably the most negative thing you can say to yourself.
All these years later, I understand exactly what was going on. Very simply, what is imprinted in your subconscious mind will inevitably prevail over any other belief no matter how positive, enlightened or logical. Was my subconscious actually fighting any change to its programming? Obviously it was!
What I came to learn and reinforced by my hypnosis training is that there is a self protection mechanism at work in the subconscious mind. It's on guard 24/7 making sure what it believes is reality is never challenged or changed by the conscious mind. What I had experienced, was never supposed to be revealed to the conscious mind. I had been given a gift. A momentary glimpse into the hidden workings of my own unconscious mind.
I was conscious yet in a trance state. Some kind of accidental self-hypnosis experience. It gave me the ability to literally hear how my subconscious mind was filtering and manipulating words and meanings in real time. Unfortunately, back then I really didn't know what to do about it. So of course I doubled down on using the affirmations!
Now, of course I understand the sub-conscious process that was at work. More important I know what to do, on a subconscious level, before introducing affirmations:
You have to neutralize the negatively charged emotional memories which have been embedded into your subconscious, before the full power of a positive affirmation will have any real long-term effect.
The process of neutralizing negatively charged emotional memory is at the core of Intentional Prosperity™ version 3.0. You'll learn how to neutralize your own inner resistance. Preparing your sub-conscious to believe what you consciously choose to believe.
Once any degree of neutralizing the resistance and obstacles in your own sub-conscious mind is accomplished, you're going to be astonished at the results. As little as a 2% change in your unconscious beliefs will change your life!
When you accomplish this, using powerful tools like affirmations and other positive reinforcement techniques are going to have a surprisingly and profoundly powerful effect.
Knowing and expecting something is possible for you changes everything. Imagine knowing your version of prosperity is indeed your life's destiny! There's a big difference between wishing and hoping for prosperity, joy, fulfillment and expecting it!
